Locals urged to halt burn-offs in SA

Property owners planning burn-offs across South Australia have been urged to put plans on hold with the state set for a day of strong winds and rising temperatures.

The Country Fire Service says Friday's conditions are just not suitable and it's not worth taking the risk.

"We know people are cleaning up their properties to get ready for the fire danger season and we commend them for their efforts," CFS state co-ordinator Leigh Miller says.

"However, we're asking the community to cease any planned burn-offs in an effort to lessen the impact if those fires were to get out of control."

The Bureau of Meteorology says winds will blow from the northeast early on Friday before shifting to the southwest later in the day as they strengthen to up to 45km/h.
