Five men have been charged following a brawl outside a Gold Coast McDonald's after an ice cream was thrown at a car.

It's alleged the incident started with an argument involving two groups of men inside the Burleigh Heads restaurant about 11pm on Thursday.

One of the groups, comprising four men, left and got into their car but jumped out again when an ice cream cone was thrown at the vehicle.

A brawl ensued, with the group attacking two other men, leaving one with stab wounds to the back.

Police allege a gun was produced during the fight before all four men fled on foot.

They were tracked down by police in various nearby locations and arrested.

The alleged attackers have been charged with affray, as has a man struck in the face during the brawl.

All five men are expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on August 19.

Police investigations are continuing.
