A young man has been charged with setting alight a teenager who remains in a Sydney hospital five weeks after the alleged incident.

The 20-year-old man and 14-year-old boy, who are not related, were in the backyard of a home in Lockhart, near Wagga Wagga, when the incident occurred on August 28.

Police will allege the man threw a flammable liquid on the teen before igniting a lighter near him.

The 14-year-old suffered serious burns to his arm, hands and back and remains in The Children's Hospital at Westmead, where he is receiving treatment.

The 20-year-old man faces Wagga Wagga Court on Sunday, charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm after he was arrested at Lockhart on Saturday.
