A man has died in after he was thrown from his car when he lost control while speeding in western Melbourne.

Police believe the 21-year-old Brookfield man was speeding when he lost control of the car and it rolled several times in Kurunjang on Saturday night.

The driver was thrown out of the car and died shortly after arriving in hospital.

Two passengers, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The fatal crash follows the death of another young man on Saturday after his car hit a pole, flipped and burst into flames during a suspected street race in Pascoe Vale.

Premier Daniel Andrews said he is concerned about Victoria's high road toll ahead of the busy Christmas period.

So far 270 people have died on Victorian roads in 2016, compared to 234 last year.

"This is one of the busiest, and sadly one of the most dangerous periods of year," he said.

"This is a very simple message: slow down and be smart about the choices you make for your safety, your family's safety, and the safety of everyone else."
