Man charged after police car rammed

A man has been arrested and charged after a police car was rammed in Melbourne and an officer fired his gun multiple times at a stolen vehicle before it sped off.

The police-issue firearm was discharged at the vehicle on Elgin Street in Berwick about 4.30pm on Thursday.

The stolen car sped off with police in pursuit but the driver was not caught and the car was later found dumped in Rowville.

Police say a 33-year-old man was arrested by detectives on Friday evening in a car park in Rowville.

He has been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, robbery, theft of a motor car, theft, indictable assault police, fail to stop, dangerous driving and unlicensed driving.

He is to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
