The driver of a car that crashed into a ute in regional Victoria, killing a teenager, did not have a licence and was trying to evade authorities, police say.

The 17-year-old girl was a passenger in the car that collided with the ute in Scarsdale on Friday.

Police on Saturday charged the car's driver with dangerous driving causing death, evading police, failing to obey a give way sign, and unlicensed driving.

The 34-year-old has been bailed to appear at Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The collision occurred at the intersection of the Old Glenelg Highway and Glenelg Highway at about 5pm on Friday.

After the crash, the 34-year-old was taken to a Melbourne hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the two men and a woman who were in the ute were taken to a local hospital for observation.
