Police say they arrested a man they found facedown on a roundabout next to the metal pole he used to vandalise seven parked cars in Sydney's south.

They say as he struck and scratched the vehicles with the star picket, he was yelling at residents in Oatley's Gungah Bay Road to come outside and fight him.

Officers allege the 21-year-old smashed the driver side windows of a Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in the street just after 9.30pm on Saturday.

He then shattered the driver's side mirror from a Toyota Camry before breaking the window and scratching the bonnet of a Mazda 3.

An Audi A6 had the driver's door scratched before the driver's door of a Toyota Camry was punctured.

Finally the man allegedly smashed the rear driver's side window of a Holden Astra.

Police from St George Local Area Command picked him up in the middle of the roundabout shortly after.

He has been charged with custody of an offensive implement and seven counts of malicious damage and will appear in Sutherland Local Court on September 13.
