A man who allegedly used a knife to threaten security staff at a Brisbane hospital and threw furniture at guards has been charged.

Police say the 28-year-old threw a chair and coffee table the security guards and threatened them with a knife after he was refused service by receptionists at the Mater Hospital on Monday night.

The man is facing a string of charges, including two counts of serious assault, and is due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
