A man has been extradited back to WA from NSW after being charged with 16 child sex offences dating back nearly 50 years.

Police allege that between 1967 and 1976 the man abused three children, aged between seven and 12, all who were known to him.

He has been charged with nine counts of indecent dealing of a girl under 13 years, four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 14 years and three counts of incest by male.

He was charged by the WA Police Taskforce Tonalite which was established in 2010 to investigate historical sexual abuse.

He was due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
