Man hides in grass after NSW police chase

A man has allegedly rear-ended a police car during a chase before speeding away, dumping his car and trying to hide in grass on the NSW north coast.

Police began pursuing the 26-year-old just before 1am on Tuesday after receiving reports of a dangerous driver north of Taree.

It's alleged the driver rammed the police patrol car before speeding off at up to 200km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Police say they found the man's gold Holden Commodore abandoned at a petrol station a short time later, and he was spotted hiding in grass nearby.

The man allegedly returned a 0.110 reading during a breath test, more than twice the legal alcohol.

He's been charged with mid-range drink driving, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving. and will appear in court on Tuesday.
