A Tasmanian youth detention centre worker has been charged with assaulting two teenage inmates.

Police have been investigating the July 15 incident at the northern Ashley Youth Detention Centre, which was captured on CCTV, and on Friday said they had charged a 44-year-old man from Mole Creek.

He has been summonsed to face a magistrate in Launceston on February 1 over the incident which sparked a political investigation into operations at the juvenile justice centre.

Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma noted the charges and pointed to changes in the centre's operation since the alleged incident.

"Changes have been made at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre, including changes to management, staffing, staff capability, safety and risk management," she said in a statement.
