A man has been plucked from the water by a lifesaver on a jet ski off Sydney's famous Manly beach after allegedly damaging a nearby bus shelter.

Emergency service workers were called to North Steyne about 2.45pm on Monday after receiving reports of a man, believed to be in his late 20s, causing malicious damage to a bus shelter and harassing people.

Footage posted online by the Seven Network shows the man, fully clothed and swimming before he is picked up by a lifeguard on a jet ski.

The lifeguard whisked the man to the nearby Freshwater Beach, where four police officers waiting on the shoreline dragged the man from the jetski.

The man was arrested and then transferred to Manly Hospital for assessment.
