A man has been remanded in custody after facing court over the violent sexual attack of a woman in her home west of Brisbane.

The 46-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly broke into the woman's home in the Ipswich suburb of Brassall around 9am on Sunday.

It's alleged he sexually assaulted the woman, in her 20s, who was asleep at the time, before fleeing the house and being arrested a short time later.

Police said the man did not know the woman and the assault appeared to be a random attack

The man was charged with rape and torture, as well as a number of other offences including entering a dwelling with intent, assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He did not appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday when his case was mentioned and was remanded in custody ahead of a committal mention on February 1.
