Two suspicious fires lit in Perth's south are being investigated by police, with a man seen riding a bike in the area wanted for questioning.

Authorities were alerted just before 4pm on Monday to the fires, which were lit on vacant land on Sandmartin Drive and Barrett Street in Southern River, about 30km south of the city centre.

Police said the man was seen riding in the area for a couple of hours around the time of the fires.

There was a total fire ban across central and southern parts of WA on Monday, with authorities issuing an emergency warning for an out-of-control bushfire that threatened lives and homes in Upper Swan.

The bushfire began on Sunday night and burnt more than 122 hectares before being contained by emergency services on Monday afternoon.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
