Melburnians can happily swim at all of the city's bay beaches again following last week's wild storms which caused a spike in faecal bacteria.

Environment Protection Authority Victoria on Friday downgraded the gastro threat at several locations - including Port Melbourne and Mentone - with all 36 bay beaches now listed as having good or fair water quality.

The news comes ahead of a sizzling weekend in Melbourne with a top of 36C expected on Saturday and 32C forecast for Sunday.
