WA Health Minister John Day has expressed his trust in Premier Colin Barnett's decision to keep Dean Nalder in cabinet following a damning private poll released last week.

While Mr Nalder admitted having prior knowledge of the poll, which was funded by businesspeople and indicated the Liberals would lose the March election with Mr Barnett as leader, he publicly pledged his support for the premier following their meeting on Friday.

"It was a judgement that the premier had to make and he was the only one who could make that following the discussion he had on Friday afternoon. I certainly trust his judgement," Mr Day told reporters on Tuesday.

Mr Day said Mr Nalder, who is considered a leadership aspirant, had a lot of capacity and ability, which was best channelled through his transport and agriculture portfolios.

"I very much hope that we now get stability and clear air, because we need that to not only continue providing good government to the state but to give the public confidence that we are doing so because I know we are," Mr Day said.

"There's no appetite for change, I think just about everybody recognises that Colin is the person with the greatest capacity and depth of knowledge to be able to continue to take the state forward."

Despite keeping Mr Nalder in cabinet, the premier told him to take this week off, which meant he missed a regional cabinet meeting.
