Tasmania's energy minister denies he's trying to avoid tough questions by rescheduling a parliamentary committee meeting focused on electricity supply.

Matthew Groom says it is necessary to request a postponement to "protect the state's interests" in terms of its contractual arrangements with the operators of a Bass Strait electricity cable but the Labor opposition say the government is avoiding scrutiny.

"I completely reject that ... we have acted on advice from the solicitor general - it's my intent to make sure we fully co-operate with this committee," the minister told ABC Radio on Friday.
