It looks like those rumours of a major feud between Miranda Kerr and her ex-husband's new girlfriend, pop star Katy Perry, may have been greatly exaggerated.

In fact, TheFIX has learned that there might not even be an Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry had Miranda not intervened.

Katy, 31, and Orlando, 39, have been friends since 2013, and they've been secretly dating for at least six months, but they crossed over from platonic to romantic only after he was encouraged to go there by his 32-year-old former wife.

"Miranda is such a sweet and open person that she told Orlando she thinks Katy is a fantastic woman and amazing singer and that she trusts him to follow his heart and do what is right for him and [their five-year-old son] Flynn," a source told TheFIX.

"She gave the relationship her blessing and told Orlando that all she wants is for him to be happy and true to himself, so it was lovely for him knowing she's fine with it, and since then he's introduced Katy to Flynn and things are going from strength to strength."

Orlando and Katy started hanging out six months ago, and when they realised they had strong feelings for each other, he had the talk with Miranda.

"Orlando doesn't want to bring a new woman into his family and upset Miranda or Flynn, and that's been a real issue with the women that he dates," the source added.

"Orlando was holding himself back, even though he knows she's in love with Evan."

Although the two women have yet to meet, according to our source, the Aussie supermodel thinks it's 'wonderful' that Orlando has found love just like she has with Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, 25.

But perhaps knowing she still holds so much sway with Orlando made it easier for her to bestow her blessings. He may be moving forward with Katy (they were first photographed together at a Golden Globes after-party in January), but Miranda clearly remains a major presence in his life.

"Ever since Orlando and Miranda made the decision to split, it has been a priority for them to put the other one first and to stay a happy family for their son Flynn's sake," the insider revealed.

"So they're still very close and loving with each other, and that has made it really hard for Orlando now [that] he's single. New women coming into his life tend to get jealous of Miranda and feel like they can't compete with the love that he still has for her."

Despite the reports of Katy's insecurity over Miranda, she's apparently dealing with it. She's even deleted her own on-off ex John Mayer, 38, from her phone and has told pals that she's devoting herself to Orlando.

"Katy has stopped talking to John and has completely deleted him out of her phone and has gotten rid of all his texts and email messages," the insider added.

"She feels strongly that she's really lucky to have found an awesome and thoughtful guy like Orlando and is devoting herself to making the relationship work."

Suns out, buns out 😎
