Police have released CCTV images of a man and woman believed to have taken a newborn girl from a Gold Coast hospital.

Police on Friday evening issued an Amber alert seeking urgent public assistance to locate the newborn, who was captured leaving the Gold Coast University Hospital with a man, a woman and an eight-year-old girl.

The woman seen taking the baby is believed to be the mother, but Queensland police fear the infant may be at "significant risk", disappearing just hours after she was born.

"They were last seen in the vicinity at Crestwood Drive near Watergum Street at Parkwood around 3.30pm, however ... could be in Southport area near Short Street," police said in a statement.
