Mitchell Starc has become the fastest man to 100 one-day international wickets as the left-arm fast bowler continues his impressive form in Sri Lanka.

His 100th wicket came on Sunday in the 33rd over of Australia's first ODI game in Colombo, when Dhananjaya de Silva was dismissed after a diving catch from George Bailey.

Starc, who finished with 3-32 from his 10 overs, had earlier struck with the fifth ball of the match, bowling opener Kusal Perera.

He finished with 3-32 from his 10 overs in his 52nd ODI to break the record held by Pakistan's Saqlain Mushtaq, which had stood for almost two decades.

Starc is also the fastest to 100 dismissals in terms of the number of balls he has delivered.

It took him 2452 balls to reach the target compared with Shoaib Akhtar's 2707.

Starc was the standout bowler during Australia's recent Test match series against Sri Lanka, when the tourists were beaten 3-0.

He took 24 wickets at an average of 15.16.
