Morrison hopes for good story for agencies

Treasurer Scott Morrison hopes he has a good story to tell major credit agencies in the coming months about getting support from parliament for budget savings measures.

The parliament will on Tuesday debate the so-called omnibus savings bill, which contains 24 measures - worth some $6 billion - Labor originally opposed but said it would support during the election campaign.

"It will be a good story to tell (the ratings agencies) to say we have our budget and we are getting support for savings measures in this parliament to help us achieve what we have set out in this budget," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
