A motorcyclist rode through a school narrowly missing students in Melbourne's northeast.

Two off-duty police officers happened to be at Armidale Road School when a motorcyclist entered the grounds at 4.20pm on Thursday and started riding on walkways and through crowds of children, police say.

The officers and the school principal caught the 18-year-old Doreen man, who will be charged on summons with a range of traffic offences including endangering life and dangerous driving.
