Paul Phillip Moore, 47, allegedly ploughed into the pole at Westmead on Thursday before fleeing and leaving his injured 42-year-old female passenger, believed to be his former partner, in the car.

Moore, who has been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping, did not appear before Penrith Court on Friday but was formally refused bail after his lawyer did not apply for it.

He returns to court on January 13.
