National road toll climbs to 33

The national road toll stands at 33 after a Queensland woman was struck and killed on a highway while returning to refuel her stranded car.

The 30-year-old woman and a male companion ran out of petrol on the Bruce Highway at Caboolture early on Monday morning.

They called a cab to get a jerry can of fuel and were crossing the highway to reach their car when the woman was hit about 4am.

Two separate crashes in Perth also helped push the holiday road toll to a sobering 33 deaths.

Police say a 21-year-old man died when his speeding motorcycle hit a car on the Roe Highway at Canning Vale late on Sunday afternoon.

Soon afterwards, a 25-year-old man died when his ute hit two cars and an power pole, causing it to snap at Duncraig.
