A Perth woman who says Kendal "Tiny" Pinder raped her in the late 1980s has been accused by the former Harlem Globetrotter's lawyer of lying and making the story up.

The Bahamian-born 203cm, 60-year-old has pleaded not guilty to raping the then teenager nearly 30 years ago when he was playing basketball for the Perth Wildcats.

Defence lawyer Mara Barone said the woman's story was untrue, the pair had never met and the Melville house in which she claims she was raped in the summer of 1986-87 was not even built then.

"I put it you that it never happened," she said.

"You never met Mr Pinder, he never bought you drinks."

The woman, now aged 47 and who was a model at the time, gave the District Court of WA an emotional account on Tuesday of how Pinder attacked and brutally raped her when she resisted his sexual advances in his home.

Pinder invited her to look at photos from his Harlem Globetrotting days after the pair met the previous night, the woman told the court.

He bought her drinks while she celebrated her birthday with girlfriends at Perth's Margeaux's nightclub, she said.

An unusual part of the trial is that the woman and her lawyers disagree by a whole year on when it happened.

Prosecution lawyer James Nicholls says the alleged rape occurred at the time of the complainant's 19th birthday in the summer of 1987-88, but the woman says it happened a year earlier.

Pinder might not have been in Perth then.

Ms Barone questioned the woman about inconsistencies in her evidence and accused her of using the internet to collect information about Pinder and his home to help her story.

"You are unable to come up with details because this never happened ... and you are required to tell the truth here," Mr Barone said.

However the woman rejected that, saying the trauma of the rape had blurred her memories and she was in a panic at the time.

Her father says he spoke to Pinder when he rang their house and introduced himself to ask his daughter to lunch.

Pinder is currently in prison in WA, related to multiple past convictions for sexually assaulting three women aged 16 to 20 in WA between 1988 and 1990.

He was then jailed in NSW for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in that state and later extradited back to WA in 2013 and returned to prison for breaching his parole.
