Quick-thinking neighbours have saved a southern Sydney home by extinguishing a deliberately lit fire.

Emergency services were called to a house fire at Collier Avenue in Beverly Hills about 2.10am but when they arrived the fire had been put out by neighbours.

There was some damage to the front door and porch area but the two occupants, a 35-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were unharmed.

Police are treating the fire as arson and will have forensic specialists to examine the crime scene.
