Indigenous Australian languages and music will be taught and researched at a new national centre at the University of Adelaide.

The National Centre for Aboriginal Language and Music Studies will open on Monday, combining three bodies of the university that promote Aboriginal music or languages, including the Kaurna language of the Adelaide Plains.

Director Aaron Corn said the centre aims to help Indigenous people play a leading role in ensuring their languages and music have a future.
