A Victorian man found guilty of trying to murder two council workers who visited his property has been given extra time to investigate new information he says could help his case.

Jonas Black, 46, was due to be sentenced in the Victorian Supreme Court on Tuesday for two counts of attempted murder and one of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A jury in June found Black guilty of trying to murder Gippsland Shire Council inspectors Matthew Patterson and Justin Eades on his Turtons Creek property on May 25, 2015.

Black had a serious grudge against Mr Patterson and felt persecuted by the building surveyor and the council over sheds on his property, with the matter resulting in a court-imposed demolition order.

During the trial, the prosecution said Black had dug a shallow grave and bought bags of lime before a scheduled appointment with Mr Patterson.

But Black had never met Mr Eades - who had accompanied Mr Patterson that day - before Black hit the new enforcement officer in the back of the head with a pipe, fracturing his skull.

Mr Eades, 33, can no longer work, has lost his sense of taste, and will likely never regain all of his nerve functions.

Black on Tuesday told Justice Jane Dixon he knew it was time "for the veritable hammer to come down" but said he needed additional time to explore new information.

"It's just about exploring some things that have just come to light," he told the court.

Prosecutor Campbell Thomson opposed delaying the sentence but Justice Dixon said she wanted to give Black - who represented himself - an opportunity to seek legal advice.

Black confirmed he had parted ways with the barrister who had defended him at trial and said he was unsure legal advice would be helpful.

"It seems ... legal representatives don't follow instructions, your honour," he said.

Black will be now be sentenced on October 24.
