Hobart man Leighton Beer has swapped the classroom for the beat as one of 19 new constables joining the ranks of Tasmania Police.

The 26-year-old who has worked previously as a primary and secondary school teacher was among the latest class to graduate from Hobart's academy on Friday, having completed a 31-week training course.

The newest constables will be distributed across the state, with eight stationed in Hobart, four at Launceston, three at Burnie and four at Devonport, taking the state's force to 1120.
