Nine people are facing drug and other charges after Queensland police staged a traffic operation near the scene of a bush rave where a young man died.

Police believe the dead man and two others, who were left critically ill, ingested an unknown drug at a New Year's Day rave on a bush block at Mount Lindesay on the Queensland-NSW border.

Officers are still waiting on toxicology tests, but witnesses have said some revellers at the event displayed bizarre and erratic behaviour.

The organisers of the event will be grilled over the death.

The two men who lived, but were flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition, remain there.

Their conditions are now listed as serious.

On Monday, police stopped and tested hundreds of revellers as they left the site.

Nine people were arrested on 12 charges, including five drivers accused of getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.
