A Brisbane jewellery store worker had to undergo surgery for severe head injuries after being attacked with a tomahawk handle during a robbery, a court has heard.

Police allege the worker was attacked after several employees escaped their restraints during the robbery on July 15.

The details emerged as Nathan John Rickards, 27, faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court over the robbery on Friday.

He appeared on six charges, including three counts of deprivation of liberty, and was refused bail.

The court heard two men armed with a tomahawk and a baton stole a pile of jewellery from the store in the inner-city suburb of Albion.

The worker allegedly attacked with the tomahawk handle suffered significant blood loss and had to have bone fragments removed from head wounds.

Rickards was charged over the robbery after police found him at a house where a person was selling jewellery from the robbery, the court heard.

Duty lawyer Fiona Lane argued Rickards should be granted bail as the evidence against him wasn't strong and he was willing to be subject to stringent conditions, including a curfew.

In refusing bail, Magistrate Belinda Merrin said there was an unacceptable risk Rickards would commit further offences and endanger the safety of certain people.

She was also not satisfied the case against him was so weak as to justify bail.

A supporter of Rickards clashed with media representatives outside court.

Rickards was arrested by detectives investigating a string of armed robberies across Brisbane during the past month.

The detectives say they are looking for a man named Luke Sullivan to assist with their investigations.

They have released images of the 26-year-old who is Caucasian, about 175cm tall and with black hair and brown eyes, and appealed for anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact them.

Rickards will next face court on August 28.
