No Broncos return for Walters: Bennett

Queensland's State of Origin winning coach Kevin Walters won't be back to help struggling Brisbane halves Anthony Milford and Ben Hunt this NRL season.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has confirmed Walters - a former Broncos assistant - has not been invited to come back to the club in 2016 now his Origin duties are complete.

Walters, a five-time premiership winner with the Broncos, was expected to re-join the club's coaching staff in a late-season boost to Milford and Hunt.

But Bennett says there's been no invitation to the 48-year-old and nor will there be.

"Not this season there isn't," said Bennett, when asked if a door was open for a Walters' return.

"I'm not here to explain why I make decisions here. The decision's made."

Walters' snub has been made more noticeable with the Broncos using a relatively little-known New Zealand coach during training sessions in recent weeks.

Joe Wehbe, the New Zealand Rugby League's performance coach, has been spotted in Broncos gear taking control of sessions.

Wehbe is an associate of Broncos assistant coach and Kiwis mentor Steven Kearney.

Bennett refused to elaborate on what Wehbe's role at the club is, only saying he is not on the coaching staff.

"The buck stops with me, so when I'm ready to talk about it, I'll talk about it," Bennett said of Wehbe's role.
