Restoring Tasmanian parliament's lower house to 35 members is not a priority for the Liberal government, Premier Will Hodgman says.

Greens leader Cassy O'Connor in parliament on Tuesday cited commentary from the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the state is suffering from a "diminished talent pool" of parliamentarians since the house of assembly was reduced to 25 members in 1998.

"The government's position is that it is not a priority for us to increase the size of parliament, to increase the number of politicians. Scarce and valuable resources are best spent on schools and health," Mr Hodgman told parliament.
