No release of detention centre footage

The Tasmanian government has rejected calls to release CCTV footage from a youth detention centre showing questionable behaviour by staff.

The Labor opposition on Wednesday asked why it has taken so many weeks for Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma to announce a review into the series of incidents from July 14 and 15 at Ashley Youth Detention Centre and called for the footage to be made public.

"We are not going to release the footage because none of the opposition are experts - we are going to have experts review the footage," Ms Petrusma said, reconfirming there is no evidence of stripping, tying, gagging or mechanical restraint.
