Adelaide actress Luca Sardelis is the first girl to join the cast of ABC's spooky teen drama Nowhere Boys as it enters its third season.

The year 10 student has spent the last few months juggling school with filming the popular show in Melbourne, and takes some inspiration from her character, the high-achieving Nicco.

"I try my best at school, I try my best at academics, and I guess in that way I'm quite similar to my studious character, Nicco. But she's probably next level, she puts a bit too much pressure on herself I think," Sardelis said.

Nicco is a bit of an all-rounder and in the show plays one of the school's top soccer players, so Sardelis reveals she was given a little bit of help to pull off those skills.

"I had three training sessions with a coach, just one on one. He set me up with drills and technique used by soccer players who have had training which is about being more realistic," she said.

"If a real soccer player watches me play, they're going to be able to tell the difference between someone who's had training and someone who hasn't."

In the show, Sardelis is one of four teenagers left with the task of saving their town after everyone disappears leaving them in a spooky wasteland, which allows for some interesting character development.

"As the series goes on, and Nicco becomes lost in the world and there's no one else around, she's forced to trust people she usually wouldn't so it makes her a stronger person and it builds her character because she has to learn to be more flexible," she said.

"There's no routine and there's nothing that she's used to, she has to reinvent herself and accommodate to her new situation."
