NSW police have charged a man after allegedly finding him in possession of $100,000 worth of drugs during a car search near Newcastle.

The 30-year-old was pulled over in Charlestown on Thursday afternoon, and following a search of his car police say they found less than 500 grams of a white powdered substance they believe to be cocaine.

The man has been refused bailed, after being charged with commercial supply of drugs, and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
