A man is due to face court over a vicious attack on the NSW Central Coast during which he allegedly stabbed his victim up to six times in the head and neck.

It's alleged the pair, aged 26 and 34, were travelling in a car along the Pacific Highway in Kanwal on Monday night when they got into an argument.

The 34-year-old was rushed to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a stable condition while his alleged attacker was arrested at a caravan park in Freemans Waterhole on Wednesday.

The man was refused bail after being charged over the stabbing and will face Wyong Local Court on Thursday.
