Three NSW Hunter region properties have been combed by police investigating the suspicious death of Carly McBride, whose remains were discovered just over a month ago.

The Belmont woman was 31 when she was reported missing in September 2014.

She was last seen in Muswellbrook, northwest of Newcastle, where she was visiting her three-year-old daughter at her ex-partner's home.

It wasn't until two years later her remains were discovered at a property near Scone following a tip-off to police.

Police searched three properties this week, including a storage shed in Scone and seized a number of items including firearms, ammunition and prohibited weapons.

The items will all undergo forensic examination.
