One of the Northern Territory chief minister's receptionists has been found guilty of punching a local charity boss while "drunk" on a flight to Darwin.

Jane Davies, who works in the office of Chief Minister Michael Gunner, punched and pulled the hair of NT Anglicare executive Angela Shima while on a Qantas flight from Sydney last October.

In Darwin Local Court on Thursday the 54-year-old was found guilty of committing an act of violence on an aircraft over the altercation.

Prosecutor Patrick Berends said Davies had been drinking during the flight.

Mr Gunner's chief of staff Alf Leonardi said Davies only informed him of the matter the day she was convicted.

"While Ms Davies wasn't working for the NT government when this 2015 incident occurred, I am very disappointed I was not told about it until after yesterday's court appearance," he said.

"I have asked Ms Davies to undertake counselling and have suspended her for a week without pay."

Davies, who had no previous convictions, was given a 12-month good behaviour bond and a $1000 fine.
