The Kardashians may rule the realm of reality TV, but a family of 10 from Perth is about to give them a run for their money.

A new six-part NITV series will follow the lives of the Rules, an indigenous family of nine daughters and their mother who are showcasing their entertaining and loving family in the series Family Rules.

The TV show evolved from a documentary following the eldest sister in the family, 30-year-old Angela, as she pursued a career as a singer-songwriter.

"I suppose it just came out of that because we got a couple of crazy moments on film with all of the girls and stuff," Angela said.

They Rules know the Kardashian comparisons are inevitable, but they aren't complaining.

"We don't compare ourselves because they're up there, they've built an empire and they've become a household name whereas we're just starting out," the second-eldest Rule sister, Shenika, said.

"But the craziness is definitely similar and the sibling arguments over clothes and everything, so there's a few similarities."

In the first episode there's a standard shopping expedition to get one of the sisters a dress for her formal, but there are also some poignant and deeper moments, particularly when the family visits the homeland of their father Kevin who died from a one-hit punch in 2004.

"Because our Dad passed away you see us head back to Norseman which is his country," Shenika said.

"Talking about dad is hard because it brings up real emotion, it's not scripted or anything. And you know we do remember him but we don't talk about him constantly in our lives. So when people are constantly asking questions that's always hard."

Ultimately, the sisters hope people take something positive away from the show.

"We're a family that's all about love and we're so close and we love being sisters," Angela said.

"I know that sounds really cliche but we just have this really special bond so I hope that people will just enjoy watching that."

* Family Rules airs as a six-part series from Monday, January 9, at 7.30pm AEDT on NITV (Channel 34 and Foxtel 144)
