Oil and gas producer Origin Energy has shipped the first cargo from the second of its two production trains at its Australia Pacific liquefied natural gas facility in north Queensland.

Origin has already exported 47 cargoes from Curtis Island since the first of the facility's 4.5 million tonnes per annum trains began in January.

Australia Pacific LNG produces natural gas from the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland, then pipes it to its LNG facility on Curtis Island where it is converted to LNG for export.

"As a cleaner form of energy, natural gas stands to play a pivotal role in helping Australia, and the world, reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change," managing director Grant King said in a statement on Monday.

Australia Pacific LNG meets 25 per cent of eastern Australia's gas demand.

Origin shares were up one cent, or 0.18 per cent, at $5.63 at 1010 AEDT.
