Outrage after Perth pedophile bailed

The bail conditions of a self-confessed pedophile will be varied after it emerged he lives close to a daycare centre, WA Attorney-General Michael Mischin says.

Ryan Trevor Clegg, 42, admitted earlier this month he had sexually abused a girl who was raped and pimped out by her own father when she was aged between 11 and 13.

Clegg pleaded guilty to 61 charges including four counts of sexual penetration of a child and had his bail renewed ahead of sentencing later this year.

After people who live near Clegg contacted shadow attorney-general John Quigley on the weekend to express their concerns, the Labor MP said it was unacceptable bail had been granted.

"His residence is three doors down from the childcare centre," Mr Quigley told 6PR radio on Monday.

"I can only imagine this happened because the prosecution for the state consented. I cannot imagine a magistrate agreeing to bail if the state's prosecutors were vigorously objecting to bail, which they should have been."

Mr Mischin said it was a concern but Clegg's bail was a matter for the courts.

"It's not a question of it being acceptable," he told reporters.

"The magistrate makes the decision as to whether the bail conditions are satisfactory in order to protect the community.

"There is a problem with the bail conditions: there's a couple of them that are mutually inconsistent and those matters are going to be addressed by the court in a few days' time."

Another of the girl's alleged abusers, Alfred John Impicciatore, was also granted bail.

The girl's father, who cannot be named, was in June jailed for more than 22 years for being one of her abusers but has appealed his sentence, claiming it is too harsh.

Another one of her abusers was Christian preacher David Volmer, who was last year jailed for 10-and-a-half years after he pleaded guilty to 12 charges.
