A man and a woman have appeared in court accused of murdering a NSW householder whose body wasn't discovered for another month.

Ammie Douglass, 26, and Rodney Kevin Harvey, 22, are charged with murdering Chris Whiteley, 69, who last had contact with his family on August 7.

When his body was found in his Lithgow home about a month later, police said he had suffered a number of stab wounds.

Douglass and Harvey appeared in Lithgow Local Court on Thursday, where they made no application for bail which was formally refused.

They also were charged with three firearm-related offences.

Harvey is further charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence in company and stealing a motor vehicle.

The case was adjourned to December 8.
