Mickey Arthur and Steve Rixon have provided Pakistan with plenty of insider information on Australia, according to captain Misbah-ul-Haq and paceman Wahab Riaz.

Head coach Arthur and right-hand man Rixon were both employed by Cricket Australia prior to joining Pakistan's brains trust.

Arthur worked closely with the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon prior to being sacked on the eve of the 2013 Ashes.

Insights gleaned during that stint have been passed onto Pakistan ahead of the three-Test series that starts in Brisbane on Thursday.

"Mickey Arthur's knowledge of the Australian team will also benefit us," Misbah wrote in a column on cricket.com.au

"It matters a lot if you have someone in your camp who is aware of the psyche of the players you're coming up against and has some inside knowledge about their strengths and weaknesses.

"It is obvious that Mickey's experience will help us in making strategies."

Wahab agreed, noting both men had spent a lot of time mentoring some members of Smith's side.

"We get that information coming up from them, they are telling us their experiences," the left-armer said.

Both Misbah and Wahab noted Arthur's advice counted for little if the tourists didn't put it to good use at the Gabba.
