Businessman Clive Palmer could be called to answer questions in the Federal Court about the collapse of Queensland Nickel next week, after his expected appearance on Friday was postponed.

Federal Court Registrar Murray Belcher on Monday adjourned the summons for the public examination of the former federal politician, along with those for Queensland Nickel managing director Ian Ferguson and former chief financial officer Daren Wolfe, until Monday at 9:30am.

It came after Justice Andrew Greenwood on Monday rejected Mr Palmer's bid to have his appearance held back until after certain documents relating to the company, which ran the Yabulu nickel refinery in Townsville and is now in liquidation, were turned over to the court in mid-September.
