Parliamentary budget office to be reviewed

A former high-ranking federal bureaucrat will lead an independent review into the parliamentary budget office.

Ian Watt, the ex-head of the prime minister's department, and former deputy director of the US Congressional Budget Office Barry Anderson, are expected to complete the review by mid-2017.

They will examine the scope of the PBO, which has provided the parliament and public non-partisan policy costings and budget analyses since 2012.
