Pedestrian critically hurt in Sydney crash

An unidentified pedestrian is fighting for life after being struck by a van in Sydney.

The man, who was only wearing football shorts and is of Caucasian appearance with upper body tattoos, suffered critical head and leg injuries after being struck on South Dowling Street in Waterloo about 6am on Sunday.

He has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital, with police appealing for anybody who might know the man or witnessed the collision to come forward.
