Perth blitz Melbourne with hot WNBL start

Pacesetters Perth have produced a blitzkrieg start to the WNBL as they charged to a 90-59 home win over Melbourne on Sunday.

The Lynx scored the first 15 points and led 24-4 in the first quarter on their way to an emphatic 90-59 victory.

Perth's Sami Whitcomb, who has made the WNBL team of the week in each of the first four rounds, scored 21 points, making eight of her 13 field goal attempts, including five of eight three-point shots.

Carley Mijovic chipped in with 20 as Perth became the first WNBL team this season to win three straight games.

Perth moved to 5-2, the same record as Bendigo, who scored a 70-58 home win over Canberra on Saturday.

Canadian Nayo Rainock-Ekunwe supplied 22 points and eight boards for Bendigo and Kelsey Griffin added 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Defending champions Townsville returned to winning ways, but needed overtime at home to subdue Sydney 85-83 on Saturday.

Townsville's Kayla Standish landed five of six from three-point range, nailing two overtime long bombs in her match-high 22, as the Fire overcame a five-point deficit in the extra period.

Dandenong slipped a win behind their top two after they fell 83-70 at home to Canberra on Sunday.

Guard Lauren Mansfied led the Caps' charge with 29 points, while centre Marianna Tolo was another strong contributor with 18 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks.
