Play has resumed on day three of the Boxing Day Test after a brief rain delay midway through the morning session.

Early showers meant play started 35 minutes late at the MCG, and the covers were brought back on again just before midday with Pakistan 7-368.

Play resumed after about 10 minutes with opener Azhar Ali moving to 175no and tailender Sohail Khan on 21.

The forecast for Wednesday is not good, with more showers and a possible thunderstorm set to frustrate hopes of either side pushing for a result.

But there could be a respite - while the radar shows a blob of bad weather over Melbourne, once that passes it appears to be clear for at least a couple of hours.

Pakistan resumed at 6-310, with showers and damaging winds forecast to hit Melbourne as a low pressure system heads east from South Australia.
