The Pretenders are set to release their first new album in eight years.

Singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde recorded the album - entitled Alone - in Nashville.

She is the only original member of the rock band to feature on their latest offering.

It had been intended to be a follow up to Hynde's 2014 solo album Stockholm, but it was later decided that it would be a Pretenders release.

Their last album was 2008's Break Up The Concrete, which charted at number 35 in the UK.

Hynde, 64, recorded Alone with Dan Auerbach, from The Black Keys. The band also features Johnny Cash's former bass player Dave Roe and country rocker Kenny Vaughan.

"This record is what I love the most - real people playing real music," Hynde said.

Alone will be released on October 21.
